Braes Bayou is not the prettiest waterway. It was paved over in the 1950s before the environmental movement for flood control reasons. The channelization and paving of the bayou apparently does lessen floods, but also destroyed a lot of natural habitat. I'd much rather see natural flood control measures put in place like the use of natual wetlands and retention reservoirs to handle excess water during heavy rains (like those used to keep Buffalo Bayou under control). Anyways, at least the concrete bayou has a nice bike path next to it. I took this photo on a ride last weekend.
